Littlejennie, glad I could help. Sometimes I find it harder to think of hints, but I managed that bit today!

Still a bit of a newbie with parsing and sometimes I have an answer but no idea how to work it out!
Eye 812. 16d "Utter failing to crush ball" Have V?i?e.(5). Hint would be great...voice fits but the parsing had me stumped.

Voice is Utter. The four-letter failing , sin, gets the usual 'ball' inside(crush).
