Thanks Melini, glad my numerous errors didn't prevent you from getting it.

You're right Jono, I'm all over the place today - my washing machine was doing a fast spin dry and suddenly made the loudest of screech sounds - obviously something metal has broke but it wasn't a part that made it stop. At the same time I was listening to the delayed Grand Prix and starting to solve today's EV.

I know, excuses, excuses 😂

Please can anyone explain 3d? I think I get the 'before' and the 'jobs' but don't understand why it's 'terms often stated?'
Thx

Hi Madwoman (wow, I feeel weird even writing that down!),

3d - the answer includes words like "in", "to", "from" and "at" etc., hence they are definirtely "terms often stated"

Coincidence: compare 13 with 27 in today's Guardian 29,758.

Like others, I felt very positive about this puzzle. Perhaps as we are getting to know the setter, he is getting to know us and our strengths and weaknesses. Not too easy, but very fair.

Ha just got 26a too, what a delightful answer! In case anyone else is struggling, the answer sounds a bit like a tongue twister when you say it fast.
