I enjoyed this Paul contribution, which was not as fiendish as was first anticipated.

One clue was a struggle for a non-UK solver, and another was only solved by remembering Paul's 'Pauline' reputation - it is unlikely to have appeared under any other setter's name!

Definitely more anagrams than I'd expect from a Paul and certainly more gentle than normal. Having said that, I'm stuck on the War god and Boy 4 letter clues in the NW. There is an obvious Pauline answer for 10a but does it parse? I can't see it if it does. And 2d just isn't coming at all.

Hi Rocky, 2d is Norse and parses 1,3. 10a is an American slang.

My favourite Guardian puzzle this week was Thursday’s offering from Matilda. I’d recommend it.

Thanks Jono. 10a obvious when you know.

Thanks to Paul. Entertaining if a little quirky this morning. Quirky could be like the late comedy actress. Sorry!

FOI 12a. LOI 2d. COD 13d but I think difficult if you're non-UK that one. Unless that term was used elsewhere.

I also found this fun and rather unlike Paul. Very little angst generated and lots of smiles.
COD - 13 (liar, liar,,,)

Nice to see Paul at his most playful and amusing. Pity some people find it tiresome, but I guess humour is always going to be that way.

I didn't do that one Jono. As I've finished today now I will give that one a go if I have a spare hour or so.

Agreed Jono re Matilda. I'm almost certain this isn't Paul. 25 is so not Pauline
