Eyeching, no - it's a famous place of Trumps. There's an anagram (spread0 of alarm, a single letter in the clue and a usual two-letter word, verb for 'work'.

Hello,
Last one for me, which I cannot parse satisfactorily and would welcome some clues, please:
27a T?R?S?E? Husband, knocked about and crashed (8).
I'm thinking the definition is Husband, as in, to cultivate, but I cannot get further to choose between one of several options. Any tips? Thanks.

Might it be THRASHED?
TRASHED (knocked about) around Husband.

Not convinced - poor clue if it's right.

I took it as Trashed, knocked (perfectly fine according to Chambers) and that's 'about', contains, the H, husband....

27a: “Husband, knocked about and crushed” (8)

I have T?R?S?E? so either THRESHED or THRASHED but can’t see where the husband bit fits in!
