Eden tata: one of those clues where the setter was so proud of the idea, he/she failed to see how awful it is.

EDEN TA-TA takes not just the biscuit but the whole damned packet.

Please can anyone help parse 4a?

Speaker from memory, perhaps one moving in speech (7)

I have R - C - T - R

It looks like RECITER ("speaker from memory"), but how does the rest of the clue work?

4 A. A Re siter is 'one moving' in speech, sounds like?

Hello, There are couple to which I think the answers but cannot parse the rest.
39A, What one uses to see down answer hasn't succeeded (6). I have
-e-i-A and assume RETINA but don't see the rest!
31D. Drink container upended, about to be dispensed with (7). I have
--T-I-A. and think RETSINA but...

Seems the two clues are connected. Succeeded is S, so 39a is 31d without the S.

Have nearly finished and the only two I can't see are:-
37 Across - "Going over support in wood and stone" (6)
I have M-R-L- , which would seem to be MARBLE
45 Across - "Most of arrested thrown in nick repeatedly" (7)
I have S-R -A -E
