I have a full grid including the three versions of 16 but my extra letters don’t give me recognisable names and I can’t see much that could be a quote. A pointer would be appreciated.

the first of the two names is from the across clues, (10 letters) and the second from the down clued (6 letters). The second is far more well-known than the first.

Thanks Muraria but I’m guessing taomct might be incorrect! Other potential letters are available but unless it’s an anagram of tomcat I’ve obviously gone wrong somewhere.

Looks like you have letters from 3 and 4 down, which is correct but first letter is wrong. 3rd letter is from 10d.
Not easy to spot the extra words as I make it that there are 8 other down clues with words that need substituting based on the quote from the first name.

Muraria - I believe all the words in 3d are necessary to solve the clue. No extras in that one.

Thanks but I reckon Thea is a 'Titanic being' so 'honoured' is the extra word....

Stuck with 1d. Have everything else.
Even with a substitution, can't make anything of it! Please assist.

I have the wordplay made up of two parts, each of four letters. “Need” and “Spanish fighter” missing a letter. Not sure about the rest of the clue though.

1D is one where the definition part of the clue ("peace") needs substituting as per the preamble

Thanks both. That word isn't in Chambers Word Wizard. I was being lazy.
Already did the substitution so should have seen it. Also had presumed, and written in, that it must end ED!
