Thanks. I had tried going down that path. Will just think harder!

Got it! Thanks. Confusing with two organs involved. Also didn’t help that I was misreading my own handwriting for the latent letter.

Almost finished now. It doesn't help that a book by an esteemed TV soap character has the title of the four key words. But I am having problems with a conflict with 9D and 23A. The latter is obvious, but parsing I am finding difficult for both. Any hints?

Ho Pendragon,

9d - anagram of 2 letter "empty dishwasher" + 2 words in the clue + S(on) - definition is "inconsiderate"

23a - another anagram of a word in the clue + "achilles" and "tendon" initially - definition is "part of foot"

am slightly undecided about whether the r in the author comes from second word in 25a or third in 1d - I'm favouring the latter but both words seem superfluous to me so I'm not clear what function the 25a word has ...

Thanks, Brendan. I was working along those lines, so it was nice to have them confirmed. I hadn't realised that two letters had to be removed from 9D and had another word that almost fitted. And I had the plural for 23A. Thanks again.

I have the second word in 25A, Prospero. The R is needed in 1D I feel, to make a numerical smaller part.

It’s definitely from 25a. Required for the wordplay in 1d. If it was party rather than part in 1d, there might be an argument, but it isn’t.

Brendan. 9D. Your hint only gives 11 letters, not 13?

That's right, the others are the missing letter (repeated)
