Not that I care for such things, but the scoring system is described as follows…

“You get 10 points for each correct word completed. Revealing letters or words will cost you points. For each square you reveal, you lose 1 point(s), but you can still get the 10 points if you get the word right. You get no points for a word if you reveal it entirely. The target time to complete this puzzle is 15 minutes. When you complete the puzzle, you will get a bonus of 15 points for every full minute under the target. There is no penalty for going over the time limit.”

So the maximum is 28x10 =280 (assuming 28 clues which is usual for Everyman’s favoured grids) plus 14x15 =210 …
= 490.

Assuming you can solve the entire puzzle and type in the answers in less than 60 seconds that is 😂

Jono - That's hilarious. I don't think I could type in the answers in that time, let alone solve the clues (especially this week). Think we can safely say that whoever devised the scoring system is not a crossword fan.

Since the puzzle is now being presented by Tortoise Media, it is only natural that it takes much longer to appear.

Very funny Buddy!
I also note that the same “target solving time” of 15 minutes has been applied to Azed … really?

I'm doing the version in the actual paper, so no scoring system. But its still a prize, £15 book token for first 5 correct solutions. So maybe a mistake you are able to see the answers on line....

I got 280 but solved slowly because I found it difficult. One of the toughest Everymans in recent memory.

Hi Hywel,

I've got it as S + LIP, but I have no idea how that equates to "pipsqueak"
