I've just read the preamble for this one. I can only see four across clues with no highlighted letters?
I'm assuming that the highlighted letters are those in columns 1&10.

... or columns headed by clues 1 and 10

Mattrom, I don’t think those are the highlighted letters. I think it’s referring to the ones you highlight in a closed loop once you’ve filled the grid

Thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns of this puzzle. I thought I had the song quite early, then I found the curve which seemed to lead to a different band, then I got the singer's name and confusion still reigned. Google to the rescue again, a singer I know and love but a song I don't think I've ever heard. I'll seek it out.

I filled the grid but found it a bit of a grind so didn't continue to the end. I thought that I had the song, was the singer DCT? If not I was way off beam.
