Have now completed the grid, after a PDM in relation to the items, although there are several entries where the parsing eludes me (never mind).

Probably won't manage the final step, but very satisfying nevertheless.

Thanks, Apt.

Only loose end for me is the first item definition - I can't see the link between Charlotte and the item?

Thanks

Google the two words together.

I read it as Charlotte being a town in the US...

Somewhat surprised that not many people here had the experience similar to mine. I read the preamble, the title and the items enumerations and the PDM happened before the very first clue was solved.

Typically, this would ruin the experience. However, here the endgame is so neat and the construction is so elegant that I still enjoyed it _a lot_! Many thanks, Apt!

I agree with the comments praising the construction of this very good puzzle. We're being spoiled this year with at least half a dozen top-notchers.
Is anyone else facing a long delay in receiving the 2024 statistics? I e-mailed my request on the 21st of March, thinking it would be quicker than my usual two-way, 2nd class stamp routine which always saw the statistics arrive in less than a week. Nothing yet after 17 days.

Perhaps the brave soul taking on John Green's mantle has underestimated the enormity of his task? It was quite a job description!!

Re parsing, would appreciate some help with 7A (LHS).

Dim, A short word for an unusual meaning of neat then a truncated word for expression, leading to a Scots word for another unusual meaning of hollow.

Bobby C, John Green marked many millions of individual cells and never got one of mine wrong in over 30 years. Amazing!

The US town is right, good spot. I did Google them together and got some hits but none close enough to justify a definition. But the US reference makes sense.

When I googled them together, I got a French dish and didn't bother looking any further. I don't understand the reference to the US city though as I can't see the link.
