Ah I see, good point. I didn’t even notice.

I found this a laborious and joyless solve, having zero knowledge of or interest in the theme, I agree with Chris that 6d was impossible to solve without research. LOI 8d, I have a word that fits the definition, but absolutely no idea how it parses! Can anyone put me out of my misery please?

Brendan, re 4dn, I dare say the penny has dropped by now, but just in case: the only abbreviation here is the final letter.

3dn: yes, agreed – not a phrase I've heard.

Enjoying the theme, and making better than usual progress, but I'm still head-scratching re the bottom half.

Can anyone please give me a hint as to the parsing of 23dn.
The rest is complete but I found a few clues a bit unsatisfactory. Maybe it's just me being grumpy!

it's a poor clue. look at "even" letters in one of the words

Sorry, Chris, I disagree. 23d was my LOI and I think it may be my COD with its misdirection.
