Haven't read the rest of the thread yet but finding this very tedious. My last 4 to get are 4 of the Meryl's ghost clues. All 4 letters with one unch. So know 3 out of 5 letters but not order. Can't see the solutions so down to trying all possible anagrams of those 3 plus any other 2 letters for 4 different clues. Got one, three to go. As I say, very, very tedious.

Son1ofrover1 - your hint at # 70 was extremely helpful. Thank you very much. Now only stuck on 9 down which, if my reasoning is correct, must be a "Meryl" clue. I am hoping that will give me the 8, 4 name, which I cannot see at the moment.

I now have 9 down, so only the 8, 4 name to unravel. Great puzzle.

SH - my way into the last few Meryl clues (I suspect a similar set to yours remaining) was through the person. I guess you have the presence person as he/she is not anagrammed. I typed “list of famous” with one of his/her defining characteristics into google and found a 12 letter example that fitted my existing Meryl letters. Really narrows down the options.

All done, after much grid staring. I had never heard the phrase!
But I cannot parse the only possible entry at 6 down (which has moved from elsewhere). A hint, please.

The last 3 letters of that answer is another crossword favourite - 'bitter vetch'.

I have the other 2 names, yes, and based on that I'd gone quite specific on the link and couldn't see number 3. You inspired me to broaden my horizons a bit and name 3 has popped out. Should save me a fair bit of time hopefully....
