I have the answer for 2D but it requires removing a letter after parsing. However that doesn’t seem to match any of the instructions in the preamble. Can anyone explain please?

Got there in the end. V clever construction, Craft!

I was way off with my initial orange cells.

I also had stumps rather than limbs. Realised rows 6 and 7 needed some extra bars.

9 grey, 4 orange, some green and 43 brown makes for a clear endgame.

Remove a letter from the penultimate word. Def is the final word only. The amended penultimate word will tell you what to do with your synonym for nibbled

16a - First word is the def, then 3 letters for 'steal' with the last letter of the next word 'stolen'/taken in.
9d - def needs correction, then 2 initial letters (and a Hebrew letter pluralised).
15d - It's a S. French house.

Sorry, it's a Hebrew month pluralised.

I have now got a grid with all answers entered - just the shading to do now - which I shall leave until tomorrow. Some very awkward clues and also some oblique definitions, which in a carte blanc, made things extremely difficult, The order of the 9 misprints is also a little sneaky.

I've now struggled over the line, but I'm at a loss to know why I have to shade 43 brown cells when I can see 44 which comply with the requirements of the puzzle (my 44th is an E, which I don't think gives much away. If it had bars either side the picture would look better, but it doesn't. Where am I going wrong?).

having battled to what i think is nearing the end (with shout-out to drxx for helpful clues along the way), i am struggling with the match - any hints please?

By cell count, i think that two of the non-grey cells in the structure must be orange (and the other two orange cells therefore outside).

I also (via wiki) know what happens when the match is applied, but struggling to translate that into anyrhing useful!

Cockie, I have 43 symmetrical cells that have 3 "E's" in them - how many have you got?
