I think this is a nice tribute and well worth the struggle (but it was quite a struggle).

Again I admire your speed and skill drxx! Please can you help with a nudge to 10a?
This king failing us would appear egregious (7, 2 words)

Think Roman numerals for the 2nd “word”

A struggle indeed, drxx, but a thoroughly excellent work-out and end result.
Had to do quite a bit of reverse engineering especially with the wall clues!

Me too, muraria (and they were often mind-boggling in reverse}.

Hope you've enjoyed it too, jogamel - sorry I missed your post (and thanks for the compliment, but doggedness is my only real talent).

A fine workout to fill the grid, for a theme not well know on this side of the Atlantic. I am worried about the term "rendering" of a book title - does that mean an actual book title, or some sort of cryptic representation? I see from the Wiki article that the show gets its title from a quote from a well-known book, but don't see how the 8 letters can be used to "render" that book's title. So all I am looking for is what "rendering" means in this context.

Thank you all! And no, I haven’t completed this because things are happening here in this house so I will try and come back tomorrow.

'Rendering' is an odd choice, because the required title is on a book cover (it starts with a shortening of one of the names - 3 letters).
