All done except that I cannot parse 36 down. A hint would be most welcome.

Slang word for the veg used in the first word (after correction) would be a rag with an extra 't' (shortening of 'it') added, 0pt0.

drxx @19, Thanks!! My problem was I googled the 3rd and 4th words created by the misprints and spent most of yesterday reading about an aircraft carrier. Now I have completed this puzzle - which I found to be very difficult.

.......and I now understand why @10 you stated the importance of the penultimate word of the misprints. A very devious way of leading to the alias of "A". It didn't help me yesterday when 3 of the 4 letters that clash provide the common acronym for the red herring that I perused for several hours yesterday.

A long way to go in this one :( but the slow and steady progress is persuading me to carry on!

Among many clues that are puzzling me would be 1a -- which I guess I know the misprint for and its location but nothing else -- and 24d.

1a was my last one resolved...after I got the misprint in the right place. 'Empty harbour' is straightforward, the rock may have a drink problem!

Just the parsing of 44a left for me. Cannot make sense of 'So far'.

Granama1 - "so far" is a 2 letter word within the answer.

Thanks Gitto, I'd pondered on that but I'll look at it again with a bit more certainty now. 👍

I also solved 1A last and puzzled for a long time about the parsing of 44. I had the 2 letter word but had never come across the meaning attached to the surrounding 4 letter word. Definition 23 in Chambers.
Some really clever clues in this one and an entertaining if gruesome end game.
