What a stinker this was today. I have just 9D left, ?E?D?R/?O/?A?
The R comes from an unparsed 19A which surely can only be iron ore. Put me out of my misery please!

Cymro, your R is wrong I’m afraid. See my post @31.
9d parses as 7 (indicators) + 4 (don’t go) round a 2 (like that) reversed

Cymro, I was fixated on iron ore for awhile too, but rock is a verb here. This was my LOI.

At least I got that one right, but only after correcting my answer for 21d.

Well it took me another hour to come up withe answer to 26, which I then had to google!! Slow progress was then made, but I am still short of the many of the NW corner. I've been intrigued by the threads above about 3 and 17. I thought I'd got 17ac, but obviously not.

Please can I have a hints for 1ac, 12ac 14ac. For the latter I have ???I???E? I thought it was an anagram of EDU and GINGER, but can't solve that.

I'm off to put away my garden tools (you'll be pleased to know I did manage to put some of my plants in my very dry garden - who would imagine we had a mega thunderstorm only a few weeks ago).

Roof,
1 is difficult. Defn. "drink warmer" (UK term). Parses as 1 followed by 2 ("not half cold") inside 4 ("picnic", slang adj).

14: defn. "given cosmetic treatment", parses as 5 ("extremely excited), 1, 3 ("ginger")

Many thanks Geeker

I managed to sort out the 3, 17 answers. which gave me some crossers. With your help I got 12ac. I'm still puzzling over 1ac - the drink warmer. I have an idea, but I can't see the adjectival picnic. I haven't yet worked out the synonyms for 14ac, but I'll keep at it.

My dinner is ready now, so I expect I'll be back after the scandi noir.

Hi roof
The "picnic" in 1a is metaphorical!
