Many thanks Chrise

I didn't even need to drink the wine. I went away, I got 1d after googling Bronx Cheer, then 1ac, then the rest. I have two I can't parse though I'm sure they are right: 12ac and 19ac. Interestingly (to me), I'd got 22d but just couldn't see why. I'd even worked out why my answer to 11ac was right. I was on a roll. I enjoyed the theme once I got it. I was glad that the extra "e" in 6,2 was explained. It had bothered me.

My FOI was 15ac and my LOI 27ac. My CODs (there were many) 8ac, 16ac, 22ac, 25ac, 1d, 6d, 22d

I found some of this really easy and got the theme very quickly but then I got held up in the SE corner. I like Paul but as someone else has said it's often a case of getting the answer and then working out why it is correct. A couple I still can't parse. At least I learnt what a Bronx cheer is.

Like many here, a slow start but (almost) all fell in nicely once I got going. However, can someone give a clue re the parsing of 29? With the crossers in place I have a number of possible solutions (2, possibly 3) and can’t for the life of me see which is the correct one ….
(Would love to see more of the ‘nonsense word’ clues - very ingenious.)

I don't see a clue 29...19 is a homophone of a 2 word phrase, if that's what you have in mind.

I did indeed mean 19. Thanks for the nudge but sadly still scratching my head. I’m sure the penny will drop at some stage!

Hi Sealionsteve, I guess you may have worked out by now that the answer is not a specific drink but a more generic name.😊

Doglover, in 19 the phrase is a 6-letter synonym of "failed to notice" followed by "a". Definition is "title" (form of address).

I had a feeling there must be more to 8a but I suppose it works...

I felt that some of the others were a bit of a stretch -- call me a fogey if you like but I don't really like the non-words in 6,2 and 20,21. But to each their own.

OK, so I came here having completed the grid but not understanding why for 19a or 13d. Suggestions / hints welcome!

19 was just discussed. For 13 it is A followed by a three-letter teacher with a proportion inside.
