*Lurker steps out of the shadows at last*
Finished but for one: the green at 59a. My tentative entry is either a Welsh footballer or a true crime author - neither previously known to me. Am I on the right lines?

I think not, lurker, and welcome. Green just about covers it, but blueish green is a more accurate definition. In printing terms, blue

Thank you Quisling. I had rejected that one, as not really green at all! Not the strongest clue in an enjoyable festive challenge.

Indeed, a bit of a stretch, Lurker, but I can’t see anything else that can work. That and the two possibilities for 34a (I favour U, though I may be in the minority) the minor cavils in a very good puzzle

I've been away for a few days and have picked this up again. Stuck on one of the Greens at 74a. If my pudding at 75 down is correct then 74a would be le_e. Have I got this wrong? Tx.

Shorthorn, just a guess, but perhaps you have transposed the last two letters of 51d?

Well I've finally finished this although there are a few that I don't fully understand. Thanks for all your tips and hints over the last year and Happy New Year to everyone.

Jono & Malone. Aargh. Thanks, the only thing I didn't check.

Hi. My problem is that I can see a choice of two candidates for the third letter of 24a, both justifiable, depending on whether one thinks minimising or maximising the length or number of 'strands' in the solution is the 'correct' action, and can see principled arguments in favour of each of them. That being so, I'd hope that either would be deemed acceptable as a solution; an unusual situation. Or am I missing something?
