I think to avoid ambiguity it should have been clued FATHER CHRISTMAS (54, 14). As it stands I don't see how the NATO alphabet answer at 54 can be considered incorrect. Consider how 2ac 68 is clued.

Sorry, I meant answers other than the NATO alphabet one....

I'm relatively new, so have to 'reverse engineer' a lot of the clues in order to understand the parsing and indicators etc, but i'm getting better.

With a lot of cheating, and help from this thread i'm down to 47a and 48d (which im hoping getting 47 will give me).

I see PARTRIDGE 47a is two words, can anyone give me a hint with the split please?

I have: _T_ _ _C_O_A_ (is this even correct?!)

Thank you, good times.

Staff, your A is wrong. The split is 5,6.

PS Using ??? for unknown letters is easier to read.

Malone, I think the A is ok (the A is the first letter of one of the sausages).
I don’t know if it was intended but the preamble says “A. Partridge” … which might provide a hint ;-)

Phew, thanks, Jono. the name and the character were both getting scrambled in my head. I'd previously typed a different count for the split, fixed/deleted that... and then still messed up!

PS I love your extra hint, I hadn't noticed that when reading the preamble.

All at sea on my last one, 6A - what one of the dukes might possess. (7). I get the Cockney rhyming slang but still can’t get anything to fit. I have F?S?E??. I would appreciate a strong steer.

Your E is wrong, Cymro. I’m not sure what you have for 8d, but if it’s EDAM, none of the crossers work. Could you be misreading your own writing?

No, Quisling, I don’t have Edam but Eeda which sounded weird but I googled it and it is a cheesy thing! Obviously wrong. I have 7D starting with S for a word that goes before cracker. I am certain that 6 A starts with an F. Spoiler alert: I originally had the hand digits for 6A which seemed to fit perfectly but fouled the crossers up. I am not confident about 22A which I have starting with an A.
