Mikey456 I've printed it onto an A4 sheet with no problem. A bit of a slog - 4 left to go.

Wow! Well done Maskerade, happy Christmas and many thanks!

Brendan, I think you're missing a treat, I'm enjoying this very much.

I found a few straightforward clues in the ordinary stuff - 52d my FOI, 12a also easy - but couldn't resist getting into the lateral thinking required (in many different ways) for the 'preamble' clues. I think I'm about a third of the way in, with a few where I cannot find the words despite many crossers, but lots that I have tickling the back of my mind and some laugh out loud moments.

I'm sure I'll be back to find hints.

Best wishes to everyone here and thanks for all your help, solidarity and companionship through 2022. Here's hoping for a successful 2023

Finally finished. I didn't know the particular meaning of 'dukes' referred to here, and that held me up. Satisfying in the end.

I'd never heard this, although my Dad used a lot of rhyming slang. So thanks for the explanation.

Hi folks, I'm new and have registered to ask for advice on this crossword. I've not solved one with an extra 'narrative section' before (I usually stick to the everyman but am branching out!).

Can I ask, when something in the narrative is written like this;

- or (2across 68) -

Are the answers both the same word or am I looking for a different word for both 2a and 68?

Grateful for any clarity, as i'm new to this style of puzzle.

Thank you

not surprising - as I don't think this style of crossword has ever appeared before ... yes, 2 across and 68 are separate words - but connected to FATHER (synonym in 54) CHRISTMAS (synonym in 14)

Thank you for the quick clarification - very useful. I felt like I was getting good at the Everman Xwords, but this might be much slower going :)
