i didn't enjoy this much - found it a bit of a chore to finish. 8d can only be one thing, but i've no idea of the parsing, 13a is feeble.

Hi Chris,

8d - Is an anagram but with "a" replaced by "time".

13a - Agree - not my favourite clue!

I tend to find parsing Vlads clues a bit on the tricky side. For me they often are a bit vague. Anybody else agree. Not a complaint however.

I think both 13a and 17a could be described as vague - I'll be interested to read what others think.

I know that he was a one off but with Araucaria the parsing was always spot on.

Can anyone explain the parsing of 22? The school seems obvious, but I can't think of a presumably 5-letter word that would allow for the cryptic definition.

22a - It's "board" as you would a bus or train and is split 3,2.
