Hi Roof,

10a - 3 letter "software" (like on a phone) inside 5 letter "organised data" - definition is "can be taken advantage of" (it's not a common word)

6d - 2 letter "Imogen's" + 4 letter "situation" as in a 'job' - definition is "tax" (on imports) - another uncommon word.

26a - 5 letter "joker" around single letter "small" - definition is "stone" as in jewellery

After this Prize, I was happy to see a double helping of Picaroon this weekend: the Friday night FT (as Buccaneer, rather easy) and the Saturday Indy (as Rodriguez, challenging, with a sub-theme rather similar to Imogen's).

Thanks Brendan

I did manage to get them all before eating my dinner. I wasn't sure what the software was on a phone, but I've got an answer, though I can't see the organised data. For 6d I have an answer that means "tax" in a less specific way. My husband, an amateur geologist (he did Geology for A level) was able to confirm the stone.

I'm hoping we get Paul again next week.

Have a nice week. I expect to be back next week.

The solution to 9a is obvious to those familiar with the theme, but wiki offers an alternative spelling, so two options for the third letter, which just happened to cross with the clue I found the hardest of the lot, with obscurities in both word play and solution. Now know the more common spelling is the one for 9, but still can’t parse. I can see the last three letters of solution might be ‘girl’, but can’t see how half of a word for ‘make-up’ equals the first three. Even if I could, doesn’t ‘put on’ suggest it should go outside the word for girl? Or have I got it all wrong?

I parsed 9 as 2 ("make"), 1 ("up half"), 3 ("girl"). But not sure, knowing nothing of theme.

And "put on" for "append" or "concatenate" is not outlandish IMO.

That's how I parsed it too Geeker.
