Did my google and now I've got the theme. It was a thing when I was at Uni and I had a model of one of the leading characters. Onwards and upwards.

Brendan, that's the same thing I got yesterday.
I cleared my cache, closed Chrome (losing a post I'd typed), reopened Chrome and have had no further problems.
Maybe try clearing the cache (History->Clear browsing data)?

24a) I have a word that could be included in a phrase with "not worth...". No idea where the game comes in, though.

I've heard the expression, but I've never understood it! What sort of game needs one?

It dates back to 1580 and I found this online:-

This expression, which began as a translation of a term used by the French essayist Michel de Montaigne in 1580, alludes to gambling by candlelight, which involved the expense of illumination. If the winnings were not sufficient, they did not warrant the expense. Used figuratively, it was a proverb within a century.

Many thanks for all the hints. I've nearly finished, just three to go: 10ac, 6d and 26ac. Please can I have some hints.

I've solved a number of these clues without being able to work out the wordplay. I pencilled in 5d ages OK, but can't see how it parses. Perhaps the penny will drop?
