I think I've finally solved all the across clues but there are two I can't parse ...

8 - Solution gains extra mark for language (3)

I think this is the abbreviation and the definition is a (programming) "language" but I can't parse any of it.

9 - Without husband, fruit turns (4)

My definition is "turns" and I thought that if I add H to the answer it would give a fruit - but it doesn't?

Thanks Malone, I haven't thought of the word for husband yet so I'll keep at it but I am sure of my answer as it is the plural of a "turn" in a board game.

Hi Quisling, that parsing of 9 with the extra stroke is super devious - I would never have thought of it:-)

Brendan, the word isn't restricted to Scotland, it's just used a lot. Is there anything that'd result in your 'turns' being fruits, nice, bright, fruits...?
