Think horror, David W. The word part-time is well chosen

Hi David,

3d - The "third" relates to the middle 2 letters of fictional "doctor" so the answer is the first 2 and last 2 letters of this doctor's name with the definition being "set" as in 'make more solid' (almost gave the answer away there!!)

Thank you Brendan and Quisling. I've got there at last! I fear much of this puzzle has been too clever for me.

I completed this but with a lot of help. First pass yielded virtually nothing. Amazing that it’s a double pangram - to get all letters of the alphabet at least twice into a grid which is only had 148 letters in total, quite an achievement.

Thanks justsolve. I eventually got it, having spent some time trying to decide between the children Mathilda and Nathalie!

When I saw the setter, I knew I was in for a difficult time. My first read through brought me nothing. A second go gave me 12ac and a couple of possibles (11ac and 15ac). I now have to decide whether to give up or ask for some serious help. Some hints for the long downs (2,5,13 and 14) and perhaps the long across (20ac) might give me another go.

I see it is a prize, but I promise not to send it in.

Hi Roof,

It is a difficult one but I recommend sticking with it:-)

2d - 4 letter "spanner" as in 'something that spans' then single letter "note" + single letter "current" + 4 letter "workplace" - definition is "see manager" (think 'holy')

5d - 6 letter "old fashioned" then 4 letter "part of word" - definition is "may be extracted by solvers"

14d - 3 letter "not just any" + single letter "old" + 6 letter "revolt" - definition is "seeking explanation for".

20a - First 9 letters are "loose-limbed men" split 6, 3 then a 7 letter "later" minus its middle letter/losing heart - definition is "extra medicine is taken"

13d - 5 letter "go into" + single letter "hospital" all inside 4 letter "stole" - definition is "it gets attached to stretcher".

PS 20a - Apologies for my faux pas - I meant the first 9 letters are "loose-limbed fellows"
