17 Era, a long time and the Dicate, 30 (Dictate?) without the middle letter, heartlessly. Eradicate, destroy.

17. Is the answer to 30 DICTATE ? … in which case remove the middle T and place after ERA.

2d - complete is UTTER and ANCE is the centre of CANCER - a house as in horoscope

1a - is that clue correct - if there was a “for” after the fool, it would be SAP PRO in DIVE

1 A. Have you missed a word from the clue? If it was '...with fool for breaking...' you'd have Dive, joint, Sap, fool and Pro, for. Di sap pro ve.

Re 1a, I don't know if I've missed a word. I transcribed the clue when I was doing that crossword some time ago. I'll see if I can flick through the book and try to find it, but it's unlikely I'll find it. I should at start writing the crossword number next to the clues from now on. Thanks
