MPRS, always a tricky one to explain the difference between mass and weight to people- not me, I’m a scientist! No point mentioning the Higg’s Boson….and that’s another irritation, why do they keep calling it “ the God particle”? 🤬

There “it” is again - in the Times Cryptic 28121:

Thanks, mathprofrockstar. I sometimes think the setters are obsessed with It.

*The word 'it', rather than It itself!

It's a battle that was lost long ago but there are some pedants still who object to the use of "due to" in that clue. It should say "because of" or "owing to" instead.

If you want to use "due to" the clue should be rephrased as:
The withdrawal of the article on sex was due to church, once.
Or maybe:
Due to church, the article on sex was withdrawn.
But then the clue might not work.

"Due", as an adjective, needs a noun to go with, and that is "withdrawal".

I agree it is a poor clue. I was taught: Due to - caused by; owing to - because of.

I was disappointed the setter did not use prosecutrix instead of prosecutor in another clue.

Mathprofrockstar, did the thrill of the It clue lead to you overlooking the other old familiar friend at 25 A?

Going on about about a drink on the Riviera? (7)

PS I have the answer, my extensive knowledge of sporting terminology was a great help...

I quite like that one. Of course “a drink on the riviera” might also be “it” ;-)

Thanks, Malone. In fact, I did overlook it. I wrote in the answer, and meant to go back and work out the parsing, but must have (not must of) gotten sidetracked. That one is still new enough to me that I’m not so bothered. I think you and I must be about equal in our cricket knowledge.
