I was annoyed to miss the cricket ref and put in "leading" which of course I could not parse.

I feel sorry for "The Yorkshire Shepherdess" of TV and book fame. As well as having 9 children and 1,000 sheep to look after, she now has to put up with some papers referring to her as a shepherd.

I like your "gotten". I think we only use it as in "ill-gotten gains".

I liked 21A in the Times today:

One books male singer: to acquire female as stripper, finally (2,3,10)

I think stripper is one of the few feminine words with -er ending.

The answer to 1A reminded me of that long word with no letter repeated that you mentioned some time ago.

Grunger, I was reading something not too long ago (was it here?) about the usage of got vs gotten in the US and UK. I was taken to task once on using the UK way.

Grunger, thanks. I didn't do today's puzzle, but enjoyed that clue!

Mathprofrockstar, I don't think 'gotten' bothers me, I think I use it occasionally... I will have to listen to myself, to check.

Orson and Grunger, I read the church clue as the amount that was due to the church, I.e., a noun not an adjective.

I suppose hooker is another feminine -er ending. I think you have mentioned that you have performed both roles?

The word was uncopyrightables.

I would have thought t` Duke was more than just a pianist ... 🎹

The `Times` crossword setters obviously think that five Million Yorkshire people are incapable of saying `the` ... long live t` stereotype!
