Yes, Roof, I'm afraid your E is wrong.

Roof, your guess for 8 is probably right, that's how I got it. Long anagram, defn. "total fool".
I've overposted here lately, trying to ease up.

I guessed 8d and then realised I was an 8d for not noticing the anagram!
A fun crossword today.

I am still struggling. It seems Paul’s offerings always give me trouble. But tell me, what is a Pauline clue?

Thanks Geeker.

I had got the wrong guess; now I have the right answer.
I think I have the answer to 24ac but can't parse it. I take it, it is the very Pauline clue meaning bulky, but where is the "brown"?

It is time for my glass of wine now, which may shake out the brain cells for the remaining SW corner, though I still haven't got 4,15 and may have 5d wrong.

Please don't stop posting Geeker. I enjoy all the comments in the Forum even when they are about football or chess.

Hi roof
The brown might be burnt or raw!

I believe 21a is the Pauline clue although 7/19 also qualifies.

Hi Roof,

The "brown" begins with U and is 'in' part of a word in the clue.

The two Pauline clues are 21a which is a homophone and 7d/19d which, once you see where the collective noun for "fish" goes, you'll understand why😉

Hi MPRS,

A Pauline clue is one by Paul that is very risque, such as the two I mentioned above. I'm not sure how the adding of 'ine' to Paul came about though.

Thanks, Brendan. Then 21 is definitely. Haven’t got 7/19 yet.

I first saw the term "Pauline" on 225. It's been in use for a long while. This reference is from 2007: http://www.fifteensquared.net/2013/07/18/guardian-26003-paul/
