Yeah I'd never have got that but I probably should check scrabble sites rather than dictionary ones for words like that, most don't list many 5 letter words ending with that letter.

Never heard of 13D before dunno why. I probably would have got 19A eventually though.

Too many obscure words for me, usually if I use a thesaurus I at least go "oh of course" when I find the answer, but not for this one.

It was made up for by 12A though which was my COD.

I use A, D as across and down if that's what you meant.

Looking at the the 1D clue I'm thinking it may be a Grauniad misprunt do they mean temp instead of temps?

Good point, para. I took "seconds" as giving S, as the "in" is part of the anagram rather than inclusion, but you could argue that "seconds" gives both Ss, in which case temp would work better than temps.

.... although Chambers gives S as both 'second' and 'seconds' and as the "in" forms part of the anagrist so, on reflection, I'd say the clue is correct.

I thought interrupting must be the I and new was the N, but then I see there is no other indicator for the anagram bit, so yeah, it does make sense after all to use seconds as only one S.

Agreed on previous comments: I also got confused by "seconds" in 1d and found the definition in 11 less than convincing. But not enough to curb my overall enthusiasm for the puzzle.

Those of us who remember the "here today, gone tomorrow" interview with fondness would have had no problem with 11d. I am still adjusting to the anodyne interviews we usually get on the west side of the pond.
