Thanks, brendan, and kudos indeed to Bogus. I didn’t see it at first. It was only when chrise queried it that I looked again. The misdirection makes it vie for COD, I think!

Thanks rogissimo and expecially chrisxxxx - I could only think of one letter that worked, but couldn't see how that gave "pot".

...although they aren't in fact equivalent - one is what you bet, the other is waht you might win.

Still stuck on two short clues, and heading out into sunshine. I'll have another go with a JW Double Black later.
On the theme, not sure if it was the celebration day itself, but while on a trip away, we passed through Malmesbury, and decided to visit the local gardens. A sign outside said "clothing optional", which initially puzzled us, but we soon got the picture! I had a long wait to video a picturesque waterfall without naked figures intruding.

One meaning of the first word in 24 is the prize, especially when made up of contributions from the contestants. In that sense It’s synonymous with ‘pot’ I think.

I agree that they are generally propagated from bulbs, but they produce seeds (or there would be no point in them flowering), so there must be a capability there.
