Three rhyming answers this week.

Thanks for all the useful comments. Shouldn’t the answer to 2d have been hyphenated? Also I don’t quite get the synonyms in 4d.

2d - The numbers in the brackets are hyphenated and there's also one between the first and second cells.

4d - "Causes dismay" COWS Chambers has "dismay" as 'to discourage' and for "cows" has 'subdue's the spirit of' so I'd that's Ok and obviously "impertinence" is LIP as in 'cheek'/'nerve'.

Ah ok! The online version for 2d has it correct as (1-3) but the printed version in Sunday’s Observer had it as (4). I see that now for 4d, thanks
