Loge, for your redirection, I thank you. What you said was indeed a statement of fact, you were tired of telling people that there were no hints offered there. Quite how that sits with the sites owners I have no idea. It is, after all called the Answerbank which, if anyone is interested, usually does what it says on the tin. Looking at this Listener on there provides the usual group hug for a few people who solved it in 3 minutes and one voice directing people here.
Yes, it rankled and yes I'm grateful for the redirection so pax and hugs. Life's too short...

Indeed hacks and pugs. I can’t agree with your interpretation of the AB thread but as you say, life’s too short and I see little point in arguing about it :)

More importantly, it seems we’re all pretty much agreed on what we want from this forum and to quote you again: if it ain’t broke...

Malone, I have gotten a few hints from you, and they were just what I was looking for. Not too much help and not too little.

Mathprofrockstar, thanks, that was very kind of you. I know that I have also given some dud hints and some unhelpful hints over the years! It's sometimes tricky, when you have the answer, to know just what's going to be enough. The good thing about this Forum is that there are usually other solvers around!

A hint (not an answer), please, to 35 across.

Also, a nudge in the direction of the Italian mathematician would be much appreciated, as that's a long way from being my specialist subject and presumably won't be in Chambers.

Cheers,
Suzannah

Clue? A sequence springs to mind, but there are others.
