I am a bear of very little brain this afternoon. I have completed the grid bar one entry and I have 9 of the letters to give me the lady’s name. I need an “N” (as the 6th letter) to complete it and it seems that it must be in one of the 3 crossing letters of 18d. But I can’t see how to get it. Help, please!

The third letter of 18d/fourth letter of 22a is M/O, giving you the N you desire.

Thank you. A stupid misspelling of 22a on entry (should have been impossible given how the clue works!) was my nemesis.

Enjoyed this. The thing that held me up in the end was the two possibilities for 4d. Then I read the clue again, slowly! Well, that and reading the preamble properly..no word is affected more than once. Doh.

They say it was one of his easier puzzles but - also being Ursa-minus-brained I struggled with a handful of clues and found the littlies at 6 and 28 quite tricky.

But once I corrected my errors a satisfying puzzle.

Granama and Kt, I'm struggling to finish this.
4, 6, and 28 are three of the ones I need, if you have any hints!
I have the 'femme' and 90% grid fill.

Lumen, the definition for 28 is the first four words. The next word in the clue gives the first half of the answer, common crossword usage, and the last word gives the second half.

4. 'Middle of cereals' gives a letter to be added to one in the clue, then anagrammed, to get an 'old harvesting tool'.

Hmm that's the old tool I had, but the clash doesn't work, Granama says there are two possibilities?
