I have a full initial grid save for the answer to the final clue, which I am sure is not one of those requiring a symbol replacement but am equally sure cannot have an answer length of 5 letters as described. I think it should be 3 letters instead. Am I right? If so, I can concentrate on the (middle) one I am missing.

Hi son1ofrover1, it is 5 letters. You should only have 2 other replacement symbols earlier; the apparent 1 from an earlier down clue is "confirmation" (ie occupying the same cell) as one from across clues.
Hope this makes sense but if not please post again.

I'm having the same problem, but without the same happy outcome. I would welcome a hint. I have an otherwise blank cell 4 from the end of the 10th row, so I assume that's where it goes. And even without that the grid-staring to find the 20 important cells has so far been fruitless. A hint there would be good too. I can see a name in col 4 and another in col 10, but are they significant?

Your assumption is correct. At the moment I'm afraid I can't assist beyond that.

Hi cockie, your blank cell contains a symbol and is part of the answer to the last clue.
The names you see (1 part name) are significant.
Should this not be much help I can be more specific if you wish to email me at the below address to save spoilers for others at this relatively early stage.

How long is the first down clue? I am unsure where the acrosses end and the downs start.
