Gitto... your letters are correct. For 27a it’s a triple definition, once you’ve removed the extra word. 41a is another fiendish composite anagram. Both have letters added.

Unclued... I hit lucky with 23a anagramming a word for ‘took in’ plus abbreviation for South Africa and L. First word is definition... not a word I knew and it was absent in Bradford’s (a theme of this crossword!).

7d was one of my last solves. First three words are the (very obscure) definition. A letter is removed.

After dedicating most of my weekend to this, I’ve finally completed the grid fill and got the messages. I’ve tried all sorts to follow the two part instruction but am getting nowhere. Disheartened is an understatement.

Like everyone else I'm finding this a pretty unrewarding slog. I hope the endgame, when I finally reach it (by Friday, I hope) will be worth the effort. I am stuck with 1A, but loge's hint at #14 doesn't help one bit. I have a word which fits, but neither the definition nor the wordplay mean much, so I have to conclude it's probably wrong. Apart from that and the elusive 7D I have the top half and three of the features (the latter half of the acrosses still to be found). Plod on, a bit like the England second innings. Get on with it, chaps.

This is indeed a real slog. Could someone give me a nudge with the second original feature of the selfie, starting at 23 ac? It might help me tackle some of the clues that contain it. Hints for 11 and 25 would also be appreciated.

25 the first word is the def (4 letters)

Thanks merenz. I still haven’t got 7dn. I’m assuming that of is the omitted word. The rest of the clue makes no sense.

I guessed that the endgame might be based on the two columns full of unchecked letters. I’ve got a long way to go before I can see what’s going on there.

‘Ends’ is the extra unclued. Def is ‘defect of US’. One letter abbreviation for rep in a word for hostile remarks.

Yep... I’m looking at those two fully barred columns but have still not cracked it :-(
