Thanks Tatters - quite an unusual offering this week, fun and challenging endgame but I'm glad Harribobs gave us some help with the circled cell!

I have solved about half.

Need help with this 3:

17 Radiance surrounding diffused gas (7)

13 Quite lost, heading to either end of Luton (7)

19 New utility vehicle initially driven into not one ditch in the Fens (7)

13 definition is "lost" (as in 'desolate) - last 4 letters are "either (2 letters) end of L(uto)N"

I should have remembered what either L,N mean.
Got the 7 letter word.

I think 17a is thematic.

I had assumed the 5 thematic may not cycle.

Grid full except for 18 ac and 35 ac. Every other letter.
Cannot seem to parse them. Any nudges gratefully received. Thanks

I have not solved either.
I think 35a may be a woman's name beginning with H ending in A.
Not sure at all.
But do not know wordplay for to rub oil on.

My guess for 35 is correct. To rub oil on is a 5 letter word.

Had to look it up to be sure.

any hint on 5d or 34a appreciated.
