Well, compared with this, last week's themed offering was an absolute stroll in the park!

I still haven't completely parsed 2d, nor do I get the '24d' reference in 9a. I also can't decide whether 14a ends in an 'N' or an 'S', and as for 24a - despite having 2 of the 4 letters I still can't see what my namesake is getting at.

Honestly, I found this a real struggle. I know sometimes a solver just might not be on the setter's wavelength, but I won't be surprised to hear that others find this difficult.

Anyway, back to 24a, and 14a and.....:-)

At last! I've figured out the '24d' reference in 9a and I finally understand 24a (very cunning by Brendan)

I think I'll go with the 'N' option in 14a but am more that open to the views of others:-)

I finally have every clue parsed which I need to do before I can 'put it to bed'.

Did you find this difficult. or was I just off the pace?

Found this one relatively easy once you get going!

Hi Polly, it's weird because, like I said, I took an absolute age to get going with this but, now I look back at it, every clue is precisely and fairly constructed so I'm not sure what I found so difficult - or maybe that's just always the way it goes:-)

Hi Brendan with this puzzle once I got the date theme then it fell into place. It's a good feeling when that happens!

25a - I am having trouble finding any source that gives "inexperienced" as one of the definitions for the answer. I've checked Chambers and The Free Online dictionary and neither give it.
