@brendan

Just got 16d - the other Brendan could have pointed up the 10,24 connection.

Hi Brendan. No, not at all. There are times when I struggle with the Prize (particularly Paul's). I think, as you say, it's whether or not you get on the same wavelength as the setter, how you're feeling at the time, etc. I happened to get 8/22 and 1/11 straight off and that gave a huge 'in' to the rest of the puzzle. By the way, I like the analyses you set up each week in this forum. Have a good weekend.

Thanks Simon, that's nice of you to say - much appreciated. Enjoy your Listener:-)

Hi Jack, the 10,24 connection to 16d went completely over my head - basically because I didn't know it was 'a thing' - but you're absolutely right, well spotted:-)

Hi Myla, you're looking for a proverb or, as i saw described on Google when I checked, 'an English adage of dubious ethics' - about a 'loser's' reward? Your letters are all correct.

The 10,24 connection in 12a relates to its letters, after two partners in a card game

Hi Brendan. I had thought of that word but didn't make the connection as in the proverb. Thanks.

No problem Myla, I always considered it more of a children's rhyme than a proverb but I'm sure Brendan would have checked it.
