22 Your letters are correct. A five-letter word for 'boastful behaviour' with the last letter missing. Inside that is 'rabidness intermittently', the usual crossword device/tactic. You have two of the three letters...

30 I got the answer from it being one of the 'Great quintet' - think geography, the Great...

Thank you Malone. Now I have a complete grid except for 3 down which must be an anagram to fit with the perimeter but I haven’t got all the 27 superfluous letters. I had a character's name for 3 down....am I on the right lines?
