Interesting, thanks. I'd be surprised if the box hasn't gone missing at least once, especially if it's sent standard Royal Mail. I didn't know about the notebook either.

I'm familiar with Mr Heald from his brilliant clues and regular appearances on fifteensquared, but I didn't realise (or had forgotten) that he was a commenter on your old blog. It was that blog of yours that got me into Azed, by the way. Helped me to see it wasn't as daunting as I'd first thought, and that I really needed to buy a copy of Chambers to have any hope of being a regular solver. So thanks again!

Very gratifying to hear that my blog helped in some small way to encourage your Azed solving.

It was probably only two or three times that Richard (for my money the best clue writer out there bar none) put me right, but enough for me to know he was ready and waiting with a "gotcha"! He was always generous in his comments about my blog and impeccably polite in his corrections: "I think perhaps Azed may have intended...". When I saw those words I knew that an update to my site was needed!!

It's doubtful that anyone's perfect, especially when it comes to Spoonerism clues. Azed has previously acknowledged that a weakness of this particular format is that half of the entries have no proper definition, relying rather on the Spoonerised versions and cross-checking.

For example, it seems obvious that the answer to 23 across is DELPHI as only the P is unchecked, however there is no confirmatory definition and the Spoonerised version seems to be DEE FELL ('River dropped') which would give either FEE DELL (consonantal) or DEH FEEL (vocalic) but not DELL FEE where both consonant and vowel sounds are transposed. The preamble makes it quite clear that the Spoonerisms can be either consonantal or vocalic, but not both. Perhaps Azed intended the clue to start 'Dropped river' giving FELL DEE which can be Spoonerised to DELL FEE ?
