@ Cerasus - It is quite catchy though, and it was good to hear it again after so many years.🎵

I quite liked 3d today. And I also knew 4d from the sound of music. Nice.

@ Sorry Elle, I've just seen you had already suggested Leapy might have misspelled 20a.

Sad eh? I also know 4 d from the Sound of Music, a true guilty pleasure. I enjoyed this week too but some of the anagram are very easy.....
The clue is in the title I think Brendan.... Everyman. It gives enough for us auld yins to scratch our heads for an hour, and invites those that have not tackled cryptic crosswords an inroad to a bizzarr world of wordplay.......

Hi Playbus, I have no problem with anagrams. When I first started trying to solve what seemed impenetrable cryptic crosswords, searching for anagrams was No 1 on my list.

Sorry Forum for conversing but anagrams were also my beginning, the joy of finding Supersonic was an anagram of percussion, Britney Spears and Presbyterian...... heehee

No need to apologise Playbus, this is exactly the sort of thing this Forum is for.

Bit of googling. 21a was a 16a on an early platform for such things. Can't thiink of a link to 19d. Again I'm missing the definition of 16a - anagram is obvious.

Hi Fop, I was puzzled by the definition to 16a also. The best I could come up with is that video games have 'sort of' taken the place or "overthrown" old movies. I'm not saying it's correct, just all I can think of.

Hi again Fop, this might be pure coincidence but I've just found a 1991 song called "Video Games" by a band named "De Niro" and also seen that the the Tarzan game came out in 1999 - maybe the setter is feeling nostalgic :-)
