Simond9x, the capital letter in 33a is significant.

Thanks, Jack, but I'm still not seeing it, nor 26d. Maybe I'll put it down and try again tomorrow.

Simond9x, in 26 D, the 'more mature' usually refers to food rather than people...

Ah, thanks Malone, got 26d straight away now. Forgot what the last two words might imply. Now onto 33a!

Grr! still problems in the SW corner. I now have 26d for certain. I have a possible answer for 33a of a nautical nature which, if correct, the clue might have been better worded as "Maybe Cork's holes". My amended 26a is not in the dictionary as such but suggests something that may be eaten (but certainly not by me). There seems to be only one possible amendment to 30a. But they won't all fit together to make a real word in 26d! I'm wondering if my 26a is wrong. I'm just thinking out loud really but if any of this makes any sense, perhaps another nudge?

Try taking your 26a with “a bottle of beer”. And maybe think cinematically about 30a. For 33a get rowdy, cobber. But I may be verging on answers: I’m done and apologies if I’ve overstepped the local convention.

Hi Jack, thanks for that - not overstepping anything for me. Think it was 30a that was throwing everything because that word never came up in Chambers so I was using the next letter of the alphabet for it, which made nonsense of 26d. Think I’m done now, thanks.

Repeated plea re 33 Across – am I right in thinking that none of the three crossers are substituted letters?

Sorry, if I’m correct, the first crosser changes

Prospero ,thanks for confirming 6a). I have never heard of that word meaning cheerful. Too lazy to look it up!
