That made me smile meursault, which I needed yesterday. As a single mother it was a very tearful day as my last daughter moved out for pastures new. So thanks for that.
Mr Green always asks us to cut the puzzle as small as possible, which was why I asked the question. Maybe tiny letters outside the grid.

Hi Xij, I'm glad my rambling served some useful purpose. But sorry to hear of your difficulty - though you must surely feel some pride that you've done your part in providing a stable platform for your children.

I think you're probably right, the 5 extra letters placed directly adjacent to the grid. My comment was not so much a recommendation, but more an illustration of the pitfalls and ambiguities that lie in wait for the setter who doesn't confine him/herself to the grid...

I don't think there's any doubt that the letters outside the grid must be included. They are an integral part of the puzzle and theme.

As I print from the website the only text near the grid is the paragraph about where to send entries on the left, title above and the name and address details below. There is sufficient space around the grid to write the five letters.

I have to say that in terms of sheer enjoyment and ingenuity in clueing, this was my favourite puzzle so far in what has been a cracking year.

As my username betrays, I have a passion for the football team located in 37ac. I also live in Waltham Forest. And I can confirm that 37ac, while hardly 'monstrous', certainly wasn't one of the capital's more desirable postcodes 20 years ago. Now, though, some neighbourhoods are very much hipster central.

Thanks Artix - from title to finally realising how the misprints work, this was great fun. Helped not inconsiderably by a 3-1 win on Saturday!

I have a full grid, poem and poet etc. but can't understand 28 Down.
Does A stand for 500 ? I thought it was D !

Samovar, A for 500 is in Chambers, a mediaeval Roman numeral.

Yes, Samovar, A and D can both be 500. Both in TCD. Another numbering convention you need to watch out for is the hexadecimal representation of 10 thru 15, which is A thru F. Again, all of which are in TCD.

Ah - Waltham Forest post code. That was the only one I could not parse.

Thank you so much, Malone and Meursault. I have to admit I looked in Chambers but missed it . Obviously a trip to Specsavers is needed!
Thanks to Orientfan too for the Postcode explanation for 37.
All much appreciated.

You're welcome, Samovar. When I looked up A in Chambers, I realised that I'd done so before - but the information hadn't lodged in my brain!
