Thank you. Should also have said that despite having the fully cross-checked answers I can't parse 'African ...' and 'Gap ...' Always a shame when such long words are served up unch-free. It niggles when the clues are mystifying.

IonaCarr, the Gap is an Intervital minus It : a clue which would have served well in last week's puzzle perhaps. For the African, I'm less certain, but I thought maybe Calla might be the African native.

Thanks, Meursault, for the parsing of 19D, which I couldn’t see. For 13d, it’s SAN (African Bushman) + U (accepted) + L(I)LAC, all reversed. Slightly dubious, as Chambers defines “lilac” as a tree rather than a shrub (though it’s a shrub according to Wikipedia).
