Pleas help with 46a.
Before noon, we gather scattered part of cereal (9. 2 words)
I am looking possibly for an anagram. Am I wrong?

Wheat Germ is an anagram of 'We Scatter + M', but why M would equate to 'Before noon', I don't know.

M = Meridian = Noon

Jogamel, I found this puzzle wasn't as tough as it first appeared - you've solved tougher ones in the past! Come back if you get stuck.

I've just finished this but although I got the letters that had to move up one clue in the acrosses, I didn't get any of the words that had to move in the downs. My point is that I think it is possible to solve this without following all the instructions, even though you might miss out on some of the cleverness.

Orson, my solving experience was the same as yours - I didn't get, didn't even look for, the words that moved in the Down clues. I don't feel I missed out on any cleverness - I quite like the idea that I beat the setter in one way! I prefer puzzles that work all the way through - do this, then this...and that'll lead to the final step. In yesterday's crossword, the letters from the Down clues was just a complication.

I am just returning to this Malone and I thank you for making me do so. I had the middle down column(unclued) quite early but have not yet seen the across ones. To be honest I did not understand the left to right instruction in the down clues but seemingly I don’t need to concern myself with that.
