Yes, I have CARBOLIC for 14D but not 100% sure of the parsing for it.

I too have CARBOLIC as an anagram of "c" CIRCA, "25 or 28" L and BO.

26D The character in question is a Private Investigator, hence PI'S A

Thanks skyewalker. Now it makes sense. I'm still not convinced by:

11A Miss river (4) - TYNE is the only river I could think of that would fit, but I don't see the association with "miss".

Chambers has TYNE as a Scottish variant of TINE in the sense of "to lose"

I thought about both options, Mildred, and went for BEARS as I couldn't see any connection between BEADS and "yields" whereas there is a loose connection between BEARS (as in, e.g. ,bearing left or right) with "Aims at." I may be wrong.
