There's an extra word in that (Down) clue - Outdoor seems to be the spare.

Indeed it is, malone. I've finished, thanks to all here. I haven't seen that image for a long time but paintings by that artist were very popular when I was a student.

I'm glad you didn't mind my gentle reminder - I was just a little puzzled at 'outdoor' featuring in the parsing! Yes, this was a clever, enjoyable puzzle.

Apologies for confusion. I finished it last night and didn't have copy with me. I forgot they all had extra words. A good puzzle.

37 A. The D from the end of the former party leader's name is the extra. I think eye = peer is ok.

25. I have Grivet, monkey. My G is from the end (tail) of 'using', I'm not sure of the rest!

The bottom right character is fictitious.
