Finally finished, and done housework, so it's been a busy day.
A possible solution to the single line problem: if the title becomes Army and Wavy, an anagram gives Drayman, someone who uses a sledge.

Having decided that my 6,5 'name in common' (the vessel) must be wrong, I played around with a few ideas and discovered that 6,6 could be achieved by using another four-letter word. Talk about the bleeding obvious. It can't be, can it? But it must be, as it justifies the plural phrase 'code options'.

OK saoralba, I give in, hint please!

Hint: why would the coding apply to that line in the grid as opposed to any of the others?

I've filled the grid, got the corrected letters (which give hints about coding), highlighted the expeditionary teams but please tell me I don't have to buy the book and read large parts of it. I've looked for plot summaries on the internet but they don't seem to be detailed enough. Also I don't get all this 6,6 or 6,5 business.
