I am fairly new to the listener and usually struggle to complete though I have managed all of them so far this year - sometimes with help from this forum. They usually take a couple of days over several sessions.
This I completed in less than an hour. I thought I might be getting the hang of it until I logged in and read the othe messages. Feeling slightly deflated......

Don't be deflated.

We old hands are saying that the Listener does not need to be dumbed down and you are proving the point.

I don't mind that the clues were easier than usual but I was disappointed that nothing much was going on in the grid. At least I've been introduced to a poem I'd never previously heard of.

I have been solving Listener crosswords (on and off) for more than forty years; to the best of my recollection this the easiest by far. That said, I thought there were some neat and amusing clues. But yes, a disappointment on the whole.

Interesting coincidence in the solution to the times2 crossword printed on the same page. Yes it was easy but on the plus side, this didn't resort to suspect 'words' in the grid. Entry-level for sure but still an elegant composition.

One of my quickest ever finishes, as I'm sure it was for many others. It's in the post now, but I'd be grateful if somebody could explain how the wordplay in 16a works. I can't account for "A" and "OR" in APHORIST. Thanks.

The tense here is AORIST which goes around P(ublic) H(ouse)

Thanks for clearing that up. I've not come across that word and assumed "tense" was represented simply by "T".

Only the 2nd time I have finished a Listener - I was going to post that standards are slipping lol. I get 60-90% of it finished reasonaby often, usually getting stuck on an obscure word or theme/modification. Still, dont care, I finished it. Will frame it for the mantelpiece.
